Boozy Ice Cream and Other New DC Eateries

Here’s a quick catch-up on what new eateries are coming to the DMV, and what beloved standbys are leaving.

👋 Welcome these newcomers:

Roasting Plant Coffee (Dupont):

This futuristic coffee shop just opened its first D.C. locations last week. You can choose your bean preference based on dozens of flavor profiles and watch the Javabot make it in less than a minute.

Love on the Run (East End):

The Love, Makoto food hall opened its fast casual concept earlier this month with bowls of noodles, sushi, sandwiches, donuts, and matcha ice cream.

The Kitchen Collective Pop-Up (Tysons):

Starting Oct. 23, this usually-virtual food hall will be having an in-person pop-up at Joon. Vendors will include Soul Rebel, Franki’s, and Pizza Serata. Open Monday to Friday from 11:30 am - 4:00 pm., with no set end date.

Uchi Pop-Up (Downtown):

Chef Masaaki Uchino is giving a little preview of Kiyomi Sushi (slated to open in The Square food hall early next year) with a $40 quick lunch omakase.

Peter Chang (McClean):

This popular restaurant’s newest location just opened in McLean with many of his signature dishes, such as the Scallion Bubble Pancake, Amish Honey Ribs, and Rogamou (Chinese Style Burger).

Tipsy Scoop (Chinatown):

This ice cream “barlour” serves scoops made with alcohol and will slide into the old home of all-day cafe Baker’s Daughter, (which just opened a new Georgetown locale this week). Tentatively opening Nov. 18.

🪦 Say farewell to standbys:

The Gibson (14th Street):

This quintessential cocktail bar is closing at the end of the year because it’s “too challenging to continue.” It will host one last goodbye party on New Year's Eve. And if you need a new fave speakeasy, we’ve got some suggestions.

Little Vietnam (Petworth):

This homey Vietnamese spot is closing but is looking for a larger space. An Afro-fusion restaurant called Almeda will take its place.

Swingers (Navy Yard):

This mini-golf club/bar/restaurant is closing its Navy Yard location after just eight months. Fear not, the Dupont location is staying open.
