Is Death & Co Cocktail Bar Worth It?

Famous New York-based cocktail bar Death & Co just opened its first D.C. location in Blagden Alley, so of course, we had to try it out.

Drinks:

The cocktails range from $19 - $24, so my expectations were high, and the bartender delivered. We got the Maglia Rosa, with umeboshi vinegar and bubbly, and the Riot Act, with Japanese whiskey and douglas fir brandy. A surprise hit was the non-ABV cocktail Flying Free, which has spiced “spirits” and honey foam. The menu has almost 30 options (including three non-alc options) categorized by mood.

Vibes:

The bar has a warm and intimate vibe. It also has a covered outdoor bar area that almost doubles the seating space. Overall, it’s perfect for a nice date night or cozy chat with a friend.

Tips:

• Reservations are booked through mid-September, but they encourage walk-ins. If you’ve got some flexibility, it’s worth a short wait.
• Try going on a weeknight! We got seated right away.
• Ask about the bar snacks. They’re not on the menu, but they have crystal cups filled with lemon-marinated olives, spiced nuts, and other bites.
• Trust the bartenders. If nothing on the menu calls to you, ask them to whip up something special.
