The Commanders could lose their name
May 30, 2023
It’s already Tuesday, D.C.! We’re hosting a live podcast taping this Saturday at 1 p.m. at Right Proper in Brookland and would love to see you there. We’ll be taping a City Cast DC episode on the local craft beer industry that you won’t want to miss!

What's CITY Talking About?
Biden Supports D.C.’s Policing Bill
President Joe Biden vetoed a resolution to block D.C.’s police accountability legislation. The act includes restrictions on certain policing tactics and expanding public access to police disciplinary records and body-camera footage. Biden said, “this resolution from congressional Republicans would overturn common-sense police reforms.” His veto came on the third anniversary of the police killing of George Floyd. Back to the Washington Football Team?
The Commanders might not be the Commanders for much longer. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office denied the football team their trademark because it’s already taken. The team could buy the rights from Martin McCaulay, a D.C. man who owns versions of the name, or file a response arguing for a trademark. Or they could pick a new name. What name would you pick for the team? [Fan Nation]
The First Rule Of Middle School Is You Don’t Talk About Middle School
Students at Lunsford Middle School in Loudoun County are battling in elaborate fight clubs, often with parental support. When fighting broke out in the school, administrators discovered social media posts that exposed the fight club activity, some involving betting and tournament brackets. What’s weirder: the school principal says many parents were aware of their fight clubs and even hosting them. [WTOP]
