D.C. considers new security rebate

June 14, 2023

Good morning, neighbor. Philippe Chow, the celeb-loved, Beijing-style restaurant, opens today on The Wharf. Rumor is Rihanna is a regular at the original New York location. So keep your eyes peeled while you chow on your whole Peking duck and lychee martini.

What's CITY Talking About?

New Security Rebates

D.C. Council is considering a bill to help small businesses buy security cameras and broken glass sensors. The District already provides rebates to residents who buy cameras to monitor their property. It’s meant to help improve security and prevent small business break-ins, like the ones in AdMo earlier this year. [WTOP]

Amtrak is Coming for Crystal City

Amtrak says it could begin construction on a station in Crystal City in 2025. There’s also a planned pedestrian bridge to connect the train station to Reagan National Airport. [Washington Business Journal]

Racist Roads Get Rectified

Loudoun County is almost done renaming roads that honored Confederate generals, slaveholders, and segregationists. By September, they plan to complete changing signage and addresses for sections of Route 7 and Route 50, which will impact more addresses and cost more. These changes follow a region-wide trend of removing racist symbols and names, and it’s about time. [DCist]

Aww rats, it’s a rat snake. (Joe McDonald/Getty Images)

D.C. is in prime season for snake sightings. Local wildlife educator Caroline Seitz shares her uncanny love for the scaly, slithery creatures, and she explains what to do when you see one. Hint: don’t kill it!

Go Nats! At least I hope that's what they're trying to spell. (Kaela Cote-Stemmermann/City Cast DC)

Someone got clever with the spelling on their Virginia license place. But I think this D.C. plate has them beat. Now my mind is reeling with possibilities.
