Is this D.C.’s most underrated sports team?

June 16, 2023

Good morning, neighbor! It’s officially Juneteenth weekend, and we’ve got a whole stack of events to help you celebrate. We are off on Monday (and hope you are too), but will be back in your inbox on Tuesday. Enjoy the long weekend.

What's CITY Talking About?

PG County Vetoes Youth Program Money

Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks issued her first budget veto in nearly five years, taking $250,000 away from a youth crime reduction program. Alsobrooks claims that her annual spending plan already included programs for youths and reentry and that the county needed to shrink its budget. Dissenting voices emphasize the area's increasing crime and small cost compared to the county’s $5 billion budget. [Washington Post 🔒]

Arlington Embraces Streeteries

Arlington will help restaurants transition their temporary outdoor dining areas into permanent ones. Outdoor dining saved about 100 Arlington restaurants during covid and have now become an integral part of the city’s culture. The county will reach out to restaurants in July to help them maintain their streeteries after the temporary permits expire on Aug. 15. [WTOP]

Everyone’s Hot for CAVA

D.C.-based chain, CAVA, raised $318 million in its initial public offering and saw its stock almost double in its first day as a publicly traded company. Now the company’s market value is nearly $2.5 billion. They’ve come a long way from their first location in Rockville back in 2006! [WTOP]
