How to fly for cheap from the DMV
June 23, 2023
Welcome to the weekend! Eater released a list of 21 iconic D.C. dishes, but can they all really be considered iconic? (Sue me, but I don’t think the grilled cheese at Stoney’s is that emblematic.) What do you see as D.C.’s iconic dishes?

What's CITY Talking About?
Hands In the Pot, Literally
House Republicans have unveiled a draft budget that would impose a lot of new policy changes on D.C. (despite us having no say, so fun!). The bill would uphold federally-mandated bans on marijuana sales and abortion access assistance, prohibit traffic cameras, enshrine the “right on red” rule that Council voted to eliminate, and more. We cover the implications on today’s City Cast DC episode. [DCist/City Cast DC 🎧]
GW Homeless Shelter Controversy
D.C.’s Department of Human Services wants to turn George Washington University’s Aston Hall into a homeless shelter, triggering some residential backlash. The shelter would be the only one in Ward 2 and the only shelter in the District that would provide private spaces for residents, a key feature for the medically vulnerable. [NBC4]

Dulles People Movers Makeover
Dulles is renovating the iconic, 60-year-old people movers that haul passengers through the airport. The project will cost $16 million and take three years, but if everything goes well, there will be a vote on whether to fix the dozens of others. [DCist]

Test Tube Nuggets, Yum!
The first ever lab-grown meat has been approved for sale, and it is being tested in D.C. The company, East Just, makes meat by cultivating cells collected from living animals. It will be selling chicken at an undisclosed José Andrés restaurant in D.C soon. So, maybe ask your waiter what test-tube products they have on the menu. [MIT Technology Review]
