What's CITY Talking About?
Council Makes Final Push
In its final session before summer break, D.C. Council passed a whole host of important laws, including one that requires the city’s inspector general to review the internal investigation into sexual harassment allegations in the mayor’s office. Council also approved a pared-down version of Mayor Muriel Bowser’s public safety bills, and a rebate program for new e-bike purchases. [Twitter]
- Related: The councilmembers also clarified that it’s illegal for MPD to engage in police chases. We covered the death and court case that resurfaced that crucial policy. [City Cast DC 🎧]
Senators Against More DCA Flights
The U.S. senators from Maryland and Virginia voiced their opposition to a Congressional proposal to add dozens of daily flights to Reagan National Airport. The senators say it will jeopardize safety, cause delays, and increase noise for nearby neighborhoods. Those pushing for the change claim the flight increases would give more choice to consumers, bring more funds to state and federal levels, and lower ticket prices. [WTOP]

Going Off the Rails
An Amtrak train full of passengers derailed on Tuesday near Union Station. There were no serious injuries, but the derailment suspended service between D.C. and Richmond for hours, and caused many other train delays and cancellations as well. Officials are still determining what caused the derailment. [WTOP]
