The highest Metro gates yet
July 26, 2023
Good morning, neighbor. What’s D.C.’s ugliest building? As a city built on brutalism, it’s not hard to find some. (A lot.) People have documented the worst of the worst in this Reddit thread, with the FBI Hoover Building, RFK Stadium, and the entirety of L’Enfant Plaza taking the top spots.

What's CITY Talking About?
Only High-Jumpers Can Fare Evade Now
Metro is rolling out new fare gates (again) to stop fare evaders. The polycarbonate gates are sky-high (55-inches) and much stronger than the older ones. They’ll also come with stricter enforcement as Metro works to stop the estimated $40 million they lose every year due to fare evasion. [WTOP]

Revamp The DMV’s Trail Systems
A $25 million federal grant will go towards building and revitalizing more than 15 miles of trails in Prince George’s County, Montgomery County and D.C. The money will in part support construction of the Central Avenue Connector Trail along the Blue Line Corridor. This is part of a broader vision to connect communities and bring amenities to places historically overlooked. [Washington Post 🔒]
Valet Robbery
Thieves are targeting valets in D.C., stealing car keys from their stands. Acting Police Chief Pamela Smith said MPD is working with businesses to propose best practices for handling keys. [WTOP]
