DC’s little league gets major drama
August 22, 2023
Morning neighbor! Ever feel like Washingtonians take work a little bit too seriously? A recent study raked D.C. as the most overworked city in the country based on number of hours worked, number of side hustles, people working over age 65, and more.

What's CITY Talking About?
Major League Drama for D.C.’s Little League
High-powered parents have accused Northwest Washington Little League president Ricky Davenport-Thomas of breaking eligibility rules to poach players to stack his team. The accusations were sent via email as a 40-page letter written like a legal brief. Davenport-Thomas rejected the allegations. [Washington Post 🔒]
D.C. Is a Homicide Outlier
Homicides in D.C. are rising to levels we haven’t seen in decades. But homicides are falling in other major cities. Why are we the outlier? Local officials and criminologists speculate the disconnect between our city-run police department and the federal-run criminal justice system is to blame, or because of a deserted downtown struggling to recover from the pandemic. Results Are In: D.C. Dines Late
D.C. residents eat dinner later than any U.S. state, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Our peak dinner time is 7:10 p.m. Dinner time nationally peaks at 6:19 p.m., while some states like Pennsylvania gather at 5:37 p.m. Of course D.C. is much smaller, which indicates less variation in work schedules and commute than most states. But still, how very European chic of us! [Flowing Data]
