DC Postal Employee Steals Millions
A postal employee in Friendship Heights has been accused of stealing checks totaling almost $1.7 million. So far, officials have ordered the seizure of about $400,000, but they believe the fraudulent deposits span eight bank accounts. [WTOP]
Giant Takes Drastic Shoplifting Measures
With shoplifting on the rise, the Giant in Southeast D.C. has decided to take big national brands (like Tide, Advil, and Colgate) off the shelves. Some ANC members would prefer if the supermarket chain hired more security officers instead. There are fears the grocery store could close, exacerbating Ward 8’s food desert issues. [WTOP]
Cannabis Rules Focus on Equity
The Maryland Cannabis Administration will open its first round of licensing on Friday using a “social equity verification portal.” The licenses for cannabis growers, processors, and dispensaries will be limited to applicants from communities that were “disproportionately impacted” by previous drug policies and who attended colleges where at least 40% of students were eligible for Pell Grants.
