4 Metro updates you need to know
September 14, 2023
Morning, neighbor. This morning’s a sad one. Ice Cream Jubilee announced that it’s closing down its original T Street NW location on Oct. 16 because the landlord is not renewing the lease. They’re looking for other spaces in the neighborhood, but for now, we’ll have to trek to Navy Yard! Sigh.

What's CITY Talking About?
GW Murder Suspect Still At Large
Police are now offering a $30,000 reward for anyone who shares information that helps them catch the murder suspect who escaped from The George Washington University Hospital last week. 30-year-old Christopher Haynes got away when an officer tried to secure his handcuffs to a hospital gurney. Police ask anyone with information to call 202-727-9099. [WTOP]
Amazon Backs DC Affordable Housing
Amazon will put millions towards helping “underserved groups” buy their first homes in the D.C. region. Amazon’s new Arlington campus raises concerns that the arrival of well-paid tech employees will worsen the housing shortage and push out longtime residents. Amazon is trying to get ahead of that. RFK Stadium Redevelopment Faces Congress
Next week, Congress is talking about the bill that would let D.C. redevelop RFK Stadium. The bill would extend D.C.’s lease with the federal government at RFK for up to 99 years and could bring the Washington Commanders back to D.C. [Washington Post 🔒]
- Related: Even if the legislation passes in Congress, there is still debate over who pays for the project and no guarantee that the Commanders would even choose to come there. [City Cast DC 🎧]

😋 Bar Spero In the News:
Bar Spero made Bon Appétit’s “Best New Restaurants of 2023,” calling it a “brassy grill-focused ode to Basque nightlife.” Consider me convinced.
