Pepco is paying D.C. $57 million for illegally dumping toxic chemicals into the Anacostia River for decades. Most of the settlement will go towards cleaning the river. The attorney general will monitor to ensure Pepco doesn't just pass these costs on to ratepayers. [WTOP]
Metro’s Got Loose Bolts
Emergency inspections after a Blue Line train derailed last week have uncovered 32 rail cars with bolts that are too loose. All 2000- and 3000-series trains — that’s 360 of the city’s older rail cars — were temporarily removed for emergency inspections. [Washington Post 🔒]
Shootout By Waterfront Restaurant
A shootout outside a popular restaurant in Southwest D.C. on Monday led to three people being wounded. The man who is now in custody fired at a group of four armed men who allegedly tried to steal jewelry from the neck of one of his dinner companions. One of the injured people was just a witness.
