What's CITY Talking About?

Anti-Racist Naming in Fairfax

Fairfax is officially renaming W.T. Woodson High School, which currently recognizes a former superintendent who opposed desegregation. The board will decide on a new name on Nov. 9. The top contender is author and journalist Carter G. Woodson, who is often considered the “father of Black history.” [City Cast DC 🎧]

Friday Night Frenzy

Police allege that a large fight at a Wawa in Northwest Washington last Friday prompted them to disperse 300 juveniles. The cause of the disturbance and the number of people involved are not clear. No injuries have been reported. [The Washington Post]

Closing the Educational Equity Gap

A new report shows that Black, Hispanic, English learners, and economically disadvantaged students in Prince George’s County Public Schools are outperforming their peers across Maryland, defying historical disparities in educational outcomes.
