Arrests During Cease-fire Protests

U.S. Secret Service officers arrested 49 Jewish activists outside the White House on Monday. They were calling for President Biden to push for a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas conflict and were arrested for allegedly crossing safety barriers and blocking entrances. There are more protests planned in D.C. today, as Biden arrives in Israel. [Axios/City Cast DC 🎧]

VA Fixes Sales-Tax Holiday Mistake

Virginia’s sales tax holiday, when shoppers can buy qualifying items without paying the 5.3% sales tax, is happening this weekend. The sales tax holiday usually happens in August, but lawmakers forgot to organize it because of  budget negotiations. [WTOP]

Herbs and Spices: Old Bay vs Cannabis

The spice corporation McCormick & Co has sent a cease-and-desist letter to Crabcakes & Cannabis, demanding that the small business stop selling their sticker that mimics the branding of Old Bay spice. The sticker looked exactly like the Old Spice container but with language such as  “Dank Herb,” best used “For Chilling, Creating, Munching, Medicating.” McCormick said the parody sticker would damage their reputation. National Landing is Trying to Upstage D.C.

Is National Landing the next big thing in the DMV? That bit of Northern Virginia — including Crystal City, Pentagon City, and Potomac Yard — is on a mission to be the next great live-and-work center. Axios’ Cuneyt Dil says it’s hoping to compete with D.C.’s downtown.

Remember yesterday’s intro about the rolling stop sign video? Ironically, all the hate clicks are helping the driver pay for the resulting traffic ticket. Even more ironic, the offender runs a very popular crime reporting Twitter account.
