DC’s Sobering Center Opens
D.C.’s first 24/7 sobering center opened yesterday at 35 K St. NW to provide short-term care for adults experiencing substance-use crises. Patients don’t need insurance or residency, and EMS crews can transport people to the sobering center instead of the emergency room. [DCist]
Teen Carjackings On the Rise
A 13-year-old boy was shot to death this weekend by the man he was allegedly attempting to carjack. The boy had nine prior carjacking and robbery charges and was the second D.C. teenager killed in a five-day span in carjacking incidents. Federal Grant To Send More DC Students to College
A new $21 million federal grant will fund college coaching, tours, and scholarships for around 480 local middle-schoolers starting next year. The effort will focus on students in Ward 7 and 8 schools. [Washington Post 🔒]
