❄️ The ultimate DC holiday shopping guide

November 27, 2023

Welcome back, neighbor! I’m glad to see you survived your extended family, and that your food coma was not, in fact, fatal. Now, we can finally put those leftovers in the bin and focus on what’s really important: holiday shopping.

What's CITY Talking About?

MD Gun-Control Law Overturned

A court has overturned a Maryland gun-control law that required fingerprinting, firearms training, and a waiting period of up to a month. The U.S. Court of Appeals said the law violated the Second Amendment. Maryland Gov. Wes Moore and Attorney General Anthony G. Brown, both Democrats, each said that they are considering appeal options. [Washington Post 🔒]

PG County Offering Basic Income

A two-year pilot program in Prince George’s County will guarantee basic income to nearly 200 vulnerable residents to help them get out of the cycle of poverty. The program will pay $800 a month for two years to 125 seniors and 50 young adults. Applications are expected to open around mid-December. [Washington Post 🔒]

Free Covid Tests

Feeling ill after your holiday travels? Starting today, you can get a free COVID-19 rapid test kit at D.C. public libraries. Stop by a library near you! [X, formerly Twitter]

Where Is It?

This small sitting area is in NoMa on 3rd Street NE. The three murals depicted are a result of the 2021 DC Walls Mural Festival. You can find these murals and dozens more around NoMa using this map. The far mural with the bunnies is by Chicago artist Blake Jones, the bubble one is by Richmond artist Wing Chow, and the walrus (?) is by Kelly Towles, Baghead, Mark Devour, and Jack Soren.

🏅 Congrats to our first three winners: Gbenga T., Aziza R., and Yukti A.!

Now, onto this week’s challenge:

Is it a train? Is it a bar?

This one should be easier for you. Can anyone tell me where this establishment is located? Bonus points if you can tell a fun story or fact about it.
