December 7, 2023
Hey, neighbor. Wow, it’s cold outside! But you know what will keep you warm? Knowing that you’re supporting local news and your favorite daily newsletter. That’s right! There are still two days left to become a founding member of City Cast DC. I believe in you! 💪

What's CITY Talking About?
Coming Soon: 24/7 Police Surveillance
MPD is launching a real-time crime center where police will monitor surveillance cameras every hour of every day, alongside their many partners (Park Police, feds, and Maryland and Virginia officials). Be sure to check out tomorrow’s episode of City Cast DC where NBC reporter Mark Segraves will explain what exactly this means. [NBC4]
Washington Post Struggles With Strike
Around 750 Washington Post employees are striking today. They’re also asking readers to boycott Post content for the day, after 18 months of stalled contract negotiations. Washingtonian reports that at least one of the paper's editors was desperate enough to encourage reporters to write up, “anything that even whiffs of news” to hoard ahead of the strike. [Washingtonian]
Arrest Made in FBI Carjacking Case
Police have arrested and charged a 17-year-old in the armed carjacking of an FBI agent in November. The stolen car, now recovered, had FBI-issued ammunition in the trunk. Police are continuing to search for another suspect involved. [WTOP]
New Law to Bolster 911 Center
The D.C. Council unanimously passed emergency legislation to ease the staffing shortages at the 911 center. The law allows retired D.C. police and firefighters to take jobs as call takers and dispatchers without losing their pensions. [NBC4]
