SNAP Boost Canceled

The city government has decided to no longer allocate $40 million in surplus funds toward the District’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) as originally planned. The Bowser administration says the city needs the money for other programs. Several D.C. Council members have expressed outrage at the decision. Roughly 140,000 District residents rely on SNAP. A group of Virginia state lawmakers reportedly met yesterday to discuss a potential deal to bring the Washington Capitals and Wizards across the river. Apparently, they are considering building the teams a new facility in Alexandria’s Potomac Yard neighborhood.
