Police Shooting in Penn Quarter

A police officer shot someone around 8:30 p.m. on Monday right by Capital One Arena. Police say the man took off running and revealed a firearm when they had tried to stop him in his vehicle. The man who was shot is in the hospital in stable condition, and the officer has been put on administrative leave. [WTOP]

ANC Members Call for Ceasefire

A group of 44 ANC Commissioners wrote a letter calling on D.C. Council to pass a resolution urging a ceasefire in Gaza. The letter came just before a demonstration for DC COUNCIL CEASEFIRE NOW crashed the city government’s holiday party. [X, formerly Twitter]

New MPD Training Focuses on Mental Health

New training for all D.C. police officers will focus on how to respond to emergencies involving people facing mental health crises. The police department says that the 16-hour training, “has resulted in a reduction of force incidents … and injuries in major cities across the country.” [WTOP]
