🔥 What’s in and out for D.C. in 2024

January 8, 2024

Hey, neighbor! Our first live podcast taping of 2024 is on Saturday, Feb. 3 at The Square Food Hall. Come meet us, enjoy food and drink specials, and watch the sausage get made. Jade Womack of Clockout DC is joining with the best things to do this February. See you there!

What's CITY Talking About?

Dozens of Cars Stolen Last Week

D.C. police say there were already 53 cars stolen in the first three days of 2024, continuing the troubling trend that began last year. In 2023, more than 6,800 vehicles were reported stolen. The city started rolling out an “air tag” program in November to tamp down on the problem. [WTOP]

Protect Against The New Covid Surge

COVID-19 variant JN.1 is surging in the U.S. Samples taken from wastewater show that infections are just as rampant as they were last winter, though with fewer fatalities, and it’s especially adept at infecting vaccinated or previously infected people. The D.C. Public Library has started handing out free COVID-19 tests again, so make sure to grab some! [Washington Post 🔒]

Human Remains In Trash Can

A man’s remains were found in a trash can in Southwest D.C, just blocks away from Nats Park. Police have yet to identify the victim and have opened an investigation into the man’s death. [WTOP]

First, where was last week’s photo?

Nice work – these snow people (and animals) are in Lamont Plaza in Mount Pleasant. It’s also where the neighborhood’s farmers market takes place every Saturday morning.

🏆 Nice work, Gbenga T., Val R., and Madeline H. for guessing correctly first! And thank you all for the great tidbits you sent in about this place. Here are some favorites:

"Easy to miss if you just pass by, but I love that one of the snowmen's faces is upside down." - Lauren K

"During the Farmers Market, there’s the Mount Pleasant Community Compost collection site, the Mount Pleasant Bike Clinic, and The Friends of the Mount Pleasant Library weekly book sale." - Sam D.

“When [Mount Pleasant] had a trolley car route, #42 used to turn around here.” – Marc

Now, onto this week’s challenge:

Where are these talking heads located? Bonus points if you can tell me anything about the artist or the exhibition.
