❄️ Winter storm warning in effect
January 16, 2024
Hey, D.C. It’s happening! Our first live podcast taping of 2024. We will be recording our February Guide with Jade Womack from Clockout DC at The Square food hall. I hope to see you there.

What's CITY Talking About?
Winter Storm Warning
Late last night, the National Weather Service issued a last-minute winter storm warning for most of the region, warning of potentially icy roads and sidewalks. Schools in D.C. and most surrounding districts are closed today. Commence students rejoicing. [Washington Post 🔒]
Homeowner Assistance Funds Dry Up
It’s only four months into the fiscal year and D.C. has already run out of first-time homeowner assistance funds. The program’s $26.2 million has all been reserved, meaning others seeking aid will have to wait until October. This has been a consistent problem for the program, which helps low-income first-time homebuyers with their down payments. [DCist]
VA Debates Metro’s Funding Plea
Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin is considering putting more money towards Metro as part of the negotiations to have a new Capitals/Wizards arena in Alexandria. The state’s Democratic leaders have demanded that more Metro funding is a precondition to moving forward with the controversial arena. Metro is threatening severe cuts if local governments don’t help bridge its $750 million budget deficit. [WTOP, City Cast DC 🎧]
Progress in the Reservoir District
We could finally see the first townhomes in the Reservoir District later this year. Located on the site of the historic McMillan Sand Filtration Plant off of North Capitol Street NW, the project has been delayed for almost 20 years after its purchase by the city in 2006. The development will also feature medical offices, apartments, retail space, as well as a park and community center funded by the city. [Washington Business Journal 🔒]
