😷 Avoid DC’s COVID uptick
January 18, 2024
Hey, neighbor. Have you gotten your 2023 Metro Report? It's like Spotify Wrapped, but for WMATA. It tells you how many trips you've taken, how much CO2 you've saved, and how you compare with other riders. What does yours look like?

What's CITY Talking About?
Huge Business Closure Hits Downtown
The mortgage financing company Fannie Mae is paying extra to cut out of its Midtown Center lease five years early, effective May 2029. It’s a huge loss for downtown at a time when several businesses are considering relocating, most notably the Wizards and Capitals. [Washington Business Journal 🔒]

MoCo Plan to Expand Bus Service
Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich (D) has proposed a $580 million expansion of Flash, MoCo’s bus rapid transit system. The plan would bolster existing Flash service between Silver Spring and Burtonsville and add routes from Germantown and Wheaton to Rockville by 2029. [Washington Post 🔒]
MPD Removes Use-of-Force Reports
The District Police will no longer release use-of-force reports to the public. MPD began publicizing reports amid a nationwide push toward police accountability during protests in 2020. The reports will no longer be public after a ruling by an independent labor arbitrator deemed them in violation of the District’s personnel rules. [Washington Post 🔒]
