February 14, 2024
Happy Valentine's Day, neighbor! If you are basking in your lover's arms this morning, congratulations, that makes one of us. The rest of you can join me in fostering platonic relationships or being unironically jealous of Walnut, the local crane. More on that below.

What's CITY Talking About?
Restaurant Not Sticking It Out
Sticky Fingers Diner is closing its H Street Corridor location this month, citing declining sales and crime. The bakery’s overall business, however, is still thriving and just opened a new flagship location in Takoma. [WTOP]
- Many restaurant owners have cited crime as a reason for the recent flurry of closures, but the statistics suggest it’s not so simple. [City Cast DC 🎧]
Walgreens Shooting
A security guard shot a man trying to rob the Chinatown Walgreens on Sunday. Kamanye Williams was taken to the hospital with critical gunshot injuries after he attempted to steal $4,200 from the backroom. The incident follows a 12% increase in violent crime in Chinatown in the last year. [Washington Post 🔒]
- Monumental Sports CEO Ted Leonsis said crime is one reason he wants to move the Caps and Wizards out of Chinatown. He’s also got an issue with the buskers. [City Cast DC 🎧]
Arena Deal on Time-Out
Influential VA Senator L. Louise Lucas said on Monday that legislation for the arena at Potomac Yard would not move forward this year. The halt comes after disagreements with Governor Youngkin on how the project would be financed. Proponents of the deal say they’re confident a compromise will be reached. [Axios]
