🪧 Councilmember Nadeau faces recall
February 21, 2024
Morning! Keep the Beat Week kicked off this past weekend, a week-long festival to celebrate all things go-go. Events include free concerts, music writing sessions, yoga, and dance classes (lookin' at you Justin Timberlake 👀).

What's CITY Talking About?
Nadeau Facing Recall
A recall petition has been filed against Ward 1 councilmember Brianne Nadeau. The committee led by local business owners cites crime as the reason for the effort. [X, formerly known as Twitter]
- Related: A similar, but distinct, group is campaigning to recall Ward 6 councilmember Charles Allen, also over his alleged mishandling of crime. [City Cast DC 🎧]
D.C. Passing Gas
A D.C. government agency that advocates for local energy consumers has called for an investigation into how Washington Gas handles gas leaks. There’s been a significant uptick in dangerous gas leaks over the past decade, and the city agency says Washington Gas’s efforts to replace gas pipes have been unnecessarily expensive and ineffective. VA Schools Admissions Ruled Constitutional
The Supreme Court has upheld the constitutionality of the admissions process at Fairfax County’s Thomas Jefferson High School. The opposition alleged that admissions process changes made in 2020 to increase the school’s diversity discriminated against Asian-American applicants. However, admission has increased 6% and 8% for Black and Hispanic students respectively since the implementation of the process. [WTOP, City Cast DC 🎧]
Community Fixes Tool Library
The D.C. Tool Library raised over $16,000 in less than a week to improve security and replace tools that were stolen in a series of break-ins. Located on Taylor St. NW, the library hopes to reopen by mid-March. [WTOP]
