🎬 Why movies don’t get made in DC

March 7, 2024

Morning, Washingtonian. If you thought D.C. home sales were bad, have you tried getting a parking space? The average price of a parking space in D.C. is $25,000 to $30,000, but it can get up to $53,000! Seriously, they compete with the Georgetown wall for the most overpriced concrete in D.C.

Fairfax Bus Strike Reaches Agreement

The Fairfax Connector bus workers' union has reached an agreement that could end their two-week strike. Hundreds of workers began striking on Feb. 22 over negotiations for improved pay and benefits. Union officials are optimistic the agreement will be approved. [Washington Post🔒]

Officers Off the Hook for Fatal Shooting

Prosecutors say there was “insufficient evidence” to charge two police officers over the fatal shooting of a man in October. 33-year-old Arthur Porter was killed by MPD on Oct. 19 after allegedly shooting a rookie officer. Later, police reports were unsure if the officer had been hit by Porter or by friendly fire. [Washington Post🔒]

  • Related: Even when MPD deems police bad at their jobs, the department often doesn't have the power to fire them. One cop has appealed and arbitrated his way out of termination for 13 years. [City Cast DC 🎧]
