🎫 Fare evasion fines begin
March 18, 2024
Great news! Stumpy – D.C.’s favorite tiny cherry tree – will likely live on despite being removed for the Tidal Basin seawall project. Cuttings will be taken from the tree to propagate the new generation of D.C. cherry trees on the Mall!

What's CITY Talking About?
Fare Evasion Fines
Today, Metro police will begin cracking down on fare evasion via procedures authorized by the new Secure DC crime law. Evaders will have to give their names and addresses or face arrest and fines up to $100. [City Cast DC 🎧]
Youngkin Taking the Arena Deal to Overtime
Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin says he still wants to include the arena deal in his budget after it was excluded by the state Senate last week. He called the plan “a once in a lifetime opportunity” to bring 30,000 jobs and $12 billion in economic growth to the region. The governor can resurrect the deal by including it in his budget resubmission to the General Assembly. [City Cast DC 🎧, WTOP]
Encampments Being Closed With Little Notice
Half of the houseless encampment closures conducted by the city last year were immediate dispositions, meaning residents were forced out with little to no notice. Immediate dispositions can be justified by emergency, security, health, and safety risks. A spokesperson for the Washington Legal Clinic said immediate closures can exacerbate housing issues by making it harder for unhoused people to stay in contact with case managers. Where Is It?

First, where was last week’s photo?
This is the Francis Scott Key Bridge, commonly known as the Key Bridge, that connects Rosslyn and Georgetown. It was designed by Nathan C. Wyeth and completed in 1923.
It replaced the Aqueduct Bridge, which had a “river” on top that let boats float from the C&O Canal to the Alexandria Canal over the Potomac.
The photo is taken on the water facing northwest, or upriver.
🏅Nice work, Brad P., Sean B., and Katlyn H. for guessing correctly first!
Now, onto this week’s challenge:

Can you tell me what restaurant this is? Bonus points if you can tell me your favorite drink to get there!
