👮 5 arrested for fare evasion
March 21, 2024
Hey, D.C.! A “Burning of the Socks” party – a sick Maryland tradition where you burn the socks you wore all winter – was hosted at the Wharf on Tuesday. The kicker? Sock-burners roasted marshmallows in the same fire pit 🤢

What's CITY Talking About?
Fare Evasion Crackdown Begins
Metro police handed out 37 citations and arrested five people on Monday, the first day of the new crackdown on fare evasion. The recently passed Secure DC crime bill requires fare evaders to provide name and address and pay a $50 fine or face arrest. [WUSA9, City Cast DC 🎧]
Bipartisan Support for Hogan in Senate Race
A new UMD poll shows that former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan has a double-digit lead in the senate race, outpacing his Democratic opponents. Hogan has had support across the aisle in the past, swaying the traditionally blue Maryland base to win the governor's race in 2014 and 2018. [Washington Post 🔒]
New Sports Betting Bill on the Table
Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie is pushing a bill that would allow sports venues and teams to offer citywide mobile betting. After the city reached an agreement with FanDuel to overhaul the underperforming sole betting app GambetDC, McDuffie’s plan would allow bettors to pick between multiple platforms.
