🚨 Baltimore bridge collapse update
March 27, 2024
Morning! Heads up, you can pick up a pair of solar eclipse sunglasses next week at your neighborhood library. D.C. isn't in the path of totality during the April 8 eclipse – only about 87% of the sun will be covered. But it’s still cool as heck!

6 Presumed Dead After Bridge Collapse
The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended the search for six construction workers who fell off the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore when it collapsed early Tuesday morning. A ship had rammed into one of the bridge's supports. The accident severed the southern stretch of I-695, meaning commuters will have to take one of two tunnels under the harbor. [NBC4, WTOP]
Key MD Senate Endorsement
Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin has endorsed Angela Alsobrooks in the hotly contested Maryland Senate race. A poll last week reported that former Governor Larry Hogan had a double-digit lead over Alsobrooks and her fellow Democrat David Trone. Maryland has not elected a Republican senator since 1980. You might not think of D.C. as a city where you need to watch out for snakes, but there have been multiple sightings in the District. Wildlife educator Caroline Seitz loves our scaly, slithery friends and joins to explain what types are in the area and what to do if you see one.

"Oh no!"
Mayor Bowser is being slammed for her not-quite-thought-through tweet where she responded “Oh no” to the Baltimore Bridge collapse news. She quickly deleted the post, but not quick enough for social sleuths. To be fair to Bowser, it was 5 a.m.
