🥾 The best spring hikes in DC
April 2, 2024
Morning, D.C.! It’s City Cast editor Adrian González filling in for Kaela today. Maybe it’s because I’m a millennial, or maybe because I’m a pisces, but I’m a sucker for spiritual sentimentality. Specifically, I’m obsessed with the “wind phones” at the Congressional Cemetery. Part of an art installation called “The Landscape Listens,” these old phones use the shifting winds to help you communicate with those who have passed. 🥹

What's CITY Talking About?
Baltimore Reroutes Maritime Traffic
Baltimore City will open a temporary channel for “commercially essential” vessels after the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed last week. All traffic has been temporarily stopped while crews remove steel and concrete blocking the main channel. Officials called the move the “first step… to reopening the port of Baltimore,” which is essential to the city’s maritime culture and economy. [WTOP]
Gallery Place Sale Tees Up Arena Expansion
A developer has agreed to buy Gallery Place, which clears the way for Capital One Arena to expand into the mixed-use property. Monumental Sports owner Ted Leonsis announced plans to redevelop Gallery Place as part of his “Arena District” after securing a $515 million deal to keep the Caps and Wizards downtown last week. The deal is expected to be closed early this summer. [Washington Business Journal, City Cast DC 🎧]
A Reason to Fly Out of Dulles
Flying out of Dulles may soon be less miserable. Their new head of concessions is looking to bring “destination” restaurants to the airport. The project will invest a minimum of $1.28 million and expand into the airport's new concourse, which is set to open in 2026. [Washington Business Journal]
