What's CITY Talking About?
Crystal City Underground Mall Closing
The shops in Crystal City underground – aka the DMV’s most haunted mall – will close in October, after 50 years of operation. Despite loyal followings for some of the vendors (Sushi Garden anyone?), the property owner says the underground retail concept is no longer profitable in the wake of the pandemic. The space will still be open to the public as a connection to the Crystal City Metro Station. [Washington Business Journal]
Teens Arrested Over Skip Day Shooting
Two teens were arrested in relation to a shooting in Greenbelt on April 19. The shooting happened at a senior skip day event, and injured five students. The teens, 14 and 16-years-old, are being charged as adults. [ABC7]
- Related: It has been a violent few days in D.C. with a shooting at Decades nightclub Friday night. However, crime in D.C. is still down compared to this time in 2023. [WTOP, City Cast DC 🎧]
Troll Takes Over DDOT Socials
An impostor has been running the DDOT director’s X account for over six months. The troll took control of the account after the @DDOTDCDirector handle went up for grabs when the former director resigned. DDOT condemned the account, which has posted everything from AI-generated images of development to fake press releases. [Washington City Paper]
Oyster Bar Fraud
