What's CITY Talking About?
Community Hub Opens in Anacostia
A Safe Commercial Corridor Hub has opened up in Anacostia, following calls from the community to offer more services in Ward 8. The hub will operate in the Salvation Army building and will be home to D.C.’s first Ward Manager who will help residents connect to the services. D.C. plans to roll out this position to all eight wards. [WTOP]
Vince Gray Endorses Replacement
The D.C. Councilmember endorsed Wendell Felder to replace him as Ward 7’s council representative because of his “diverse experience” and “dedication to uplifting Ward 7.” Felder’s platform includes increasing health care services and expanding the streetcar network. [Washington Post 🔒]
Reckoning with the Allen Recall
Rising fear over crime has caused a group of Ward 6 residents to launch a campaign to recall Councilmember Charles Allen. Critics point to Allen’s progressive crime policies in 2020, such as reducing police budgets, as cause for 2023’s crime wave. The recall effort must obtain signatures from 10% of Ward 6’s population by late summer to warrant a special election. [City Cast DC 🎧]

Where Is It?

First, Where Was Last Week’s Photo?
Nice work! This is The Block Foodhall & Bar in Annandale. It’s the home of five food stalls including Pokeworks, SnoCream Company, Bold Dumpling, Balo Kitchen, and a bar. It’s well worth the trip out to the burbs.
🏆 Congratulations to Nicole M., Anna L., and John F. for guessing correctly first! You all gave some great recs for what to get there.

As for me? My favorites are the Spam musubi from Pokeworks, and the báhn mi from Balo Kitchen!
