What's CITY Talking About?
Foxtrot Plots a Comeback
The upscale bodega, Foxtrot, may bounce back after abruptly closing its 10 D.C. locations last month. The founder is involved in a new ownership group that wants to revive some of the stores and is even in talks for new lease agreements. But, not everyone wants to work with the company. In D.C. at least three landlords are suing for back rent. Not a great foot to start off on. [Axios]
Ship Returns to Port After Bridge Collapse
Two months after the Baltimore bridge collapse, the container ship that crashed into the bridge has returned to port. The ship crashed after electrical blackouts caused the crew to lose control. Maryland governor Wes Moore says the collapsed bridge clean-up is ahead of schedule. [WTOP]
Councilmember Allen Strikes Back Against Recall
Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen defended his record of prioritizing crime policy, calling the recall effort “a campaign funded by former Trump officials.” The recall effort has targeted Allen for months for a perceived leniency towards crime. But, Allen is confident the recall will fail, pointing towards a downturn in crime and his widespread support in Ward 6. [City Cast DC 🎧]
Youngkin Veto-Spree
Virginia governor Glenn Youngkin is on a veto-spree, blocking a total of 48 bills. This includes vetoes to bills related to gun control, access to contraception, and closing tax loopholes for Confederate heritage groups. Critics say this solidifies Youngkin as a “hard-right Republican” and not someone with bipartisan appeal. [Washington Post 🔒]
