What's CITY Talking About?
Loudon Introduces Free Buses
Loudoun County has made local bus routes free while increasing the cost of commuter buses. The changes look to increase ridership and reduce operation costs. The commuter buses that run to Crystal City, Rosslyn, the Pentagon, and D.C. will increase from $10 to $12 by 2026. [NoVa Mag]
Bitcoin Billionaire Busted
Business software company Microstrategy agreed to pay the D.C. $40 million to settle their fraud case. The lawsuit alleges Microstrategy’s bitcoin billionaire-owner Michael Saylor lied about his residency to dodge taxes. While Saylor claims he never lived in D.C., whistleblowers pointed to Facebook posts of his Georgetown residence and even claimed he “openly bragged” about tax evasion. [Washington Post 🔒]
DCPS Parents Worried After Gas Leaks
The city is set to meet with families and teachers tomorrow following three consecutive gas leaks at Chisholm Elementary in Capitol Hill. The school was first evacuated on May 15 after a teacher smelled gas. The school was cleared and then evacuated two more times, leading many parents to express distrust of the city’s gas protocols. Post Editor Steps Down
The Washington Post’s Sally Buzbee stepped down from her role as executive editor amid structural changes. Buzbee became the first woman to lead the Post when she stepped into the position in 2021. This is the latest of several high-profile changes in D.C. media this year following the closure of DCist in February. [Axios, City Cast DC 🎧]
