🌳 DC's best pocket parks
June 13, 2024 · 💌 Kaela
Welcome back to D.C. Parks Week! Be warned, D.C. is entering a period of “extreme heat” starting Friday, with temps breaking triple digits. Luckily, the Washington Post came out with their best D.C. ice cream list just in time.

What's CITY Talking About?
New WaPo Head Focuses Local
Washington Post’s new CEO Will Lewis wants to boost local coverage by introducing a subscription service called Local+. Subscribers will receive newsletters and “premium local content.” This could be a refreshing turnaround to when Jeff Bezos first took over the Post and looked to backseat local coverage. However, some are concerned about the “British invasion” turning around the newsroom. [Axios]
Bridge to DCA
Arlington wants to build a $57.2 million pedestrian bridge to connect Crystal City and DCA. The bridge would stretch 1,300 feet from the Virginia Railway Express station to the airport and would take five minutes to walk. The bridge is scheduled to be finished in 2030 having already received $18 million in funding. [ARLNow]
Moped Crackdown Continues
D.C. police are cracking down on illegal mopeds following a boom in food delivery riders. MPD impounded 17 mopeds and arrested five people since the crackdown started. Advocates say there needs to be more outreach to riders, many of whom are immigrants, to help obtain work permits and necessary licensing for mopeds. [Washington Post 🔒]
Michelin Adds 5 DC Restaurants To Guide
Five restaurants were newly added to Michelin’s D.C. guide this week. Almeda, Balos Estiatorio, Mita, Moon Rabbit, and Omakase @ Barracks Row were all added to the general “recommended” list. However, stars and Bib Gourmands won’t be awarded until later this year. [Washingtonian]
