What's CITY Talking About?
New WaPo Editor Resigns
Newly named Washington Post editor Robert Winnett withdrew himself from the position after backlash over his journalistic ethics. Winnett was supposed to take over the Post’s core newsroom after the 2024 election. This creates more turmoil for new CEO Will Lewis, who’s looking to pivot the paper back to local news. [WTOP]
Compass Coffee Accused of Union Busting
The Compass Coffee union is accusing the popular café of using union busting tactics. They say management hired over 120 people since they went public with their union drive, including Cullen Gilchrist and Elena Rosenblum of Union Kitchen, which was caught union busting last year. [Instagram]
Meanwhile, Arlington Forms Teachers Union
The Arlington School Board approved its first teachers union contract in almost 50 years last week. The agreement guarantees annual pay raises, adds four days of bereavement leave, and adds union representation in decisions about changing benefits. This is the fifth school division to certify a contract in Virginia since 2020. [Washington Post 🔒]
New Budget, New Problems
The DC Council will take a second vote on Tuesday to approve the 2025 budget. Changes include pouring money into Downtown, giving the police more money to hire officers, and upping the number of housing vouchers. [City Cast DC 🎧]

Where Is It?

First, Where Was Last Week’s Photo?
OK, nature nerds! Nice work. This is the bridge to Theodore Roosevelt Island. The 88-acre national park is an island located between D.C. and Virginia. There are no cars or bikes allowed but there are miles of great hiking paths, a bog boardwalk, and a national memorial to Roosevelt.
The island has a long history. It was briefly the home of the Nacotchtank Indians, who moved there in 1668 when white settlers pushed them out of what is now Anacostia. During the Civil War, it was used as a training camp for the United States Colored Troops. Then it became a test site for dynamite and weapons experimentation. It finally became the park we know today in 1967.
🏆 Congratulations to Heather N., Jesse B., and Carin J. for getting it right first!
Now, Onto This Week’s Challenge:

Now, can you tell me where this Romanesque-looking fountain is located?
