🚧 DC pushes Downtown office conversions
July 1, 2024 · 💌 Kaela
Hey, D.C.! Head’s up, if you’re traveling for the Fourth of July and want to avoid mega traffic, today is the best time to leave! Peak congestion in D.C. is expected on Monday, July 8 at 3:15 p.m. But if you DO get stuck in traffic, I know a great podcast that will make the time fly by 😉

What's CITY Talking About?
Congressional Battle Over Union Station
There’s a congressional battle brewing over the renovation of Union Station. Amtrak recently took control over the train station via eminent domain, looking to turn it into an $8.8 billion high-speed rail hub. But House Oversight head James Comer (R-Ky.) is trying to derail Amtrak’s plan, saying it goes against the original plan from 1980. [Axios]
Tax Incentive for Office Conversions
A new law will provide tax abatement incentives to repurpose office buildings into shops, restaurants, or hotels. The program looks to revitalize Downtown, and is separate from a similar program incentivizing office conversions for residential purposes. [Washington Business Journal]
