🎉 Your 4th of July events guide

July 3, 2024 · 💌 Kaela

Hey, neighbor! Wondering what to do with your day off tomorrow? We’ve rounded up all the best Fourth of July events below 🎆

P.S. We’re off tomorrow but will be back in your inbox on Friday. XOXO

What's CITY Talking About?

New Vision for Potomac Waterfront

A new plan would completely reconstruct the Potomac River waterfront to connect the Kennedy Center to the National Mall with greener spaces. The concept would add a 27-acre park that stretches from Virginia Ave to the Lincoln Memorial and move surrounding roads underground. [Washington Business Journal]

Budget Struggles with Pay Equity Fund

A late objection from CFO Glen Lee forced city council to make changes to the Pay Equity Fund, a fund that raises pay for early childcare educators. Councilmembers fought to reintroduce the fund after Mayor Bowser slashed it from her original budget. While the final budget includes the fund, it will cut wages for workers with Bachelor’s degrees. [Washington City Paper]

Ride Don’t Drive Tomorrow

There will be a host of road closures surrounding the National Mall tomorrow in preparation for the Fourth of July fireworks. Roads throughout the city will also be closed for parades, but Metro will be free from 5 p.m. till closing. [Washington Post 🔒]

Montana Senator Blocking RFK Bill

Montana Senator Steve Daines [R-MT] is blocking a bill funding the renovation of the RFK site until the Commanders “honor” their former logo. The designer of the original logo was Walter Wetzel, a member of Montana’s Blackfeet nation, but the logo was criticized as racist. [WTOP]

DC's Secret Oasis

Crispus Attucks Park in Northeast D.C. is a great place to spend your Fourth of July holiday, so we’re revisiting our episode with Tyrone Goodwyn, who helped transform the space from asphalt into a hidden gem.

Have you spotted the July 4th wrapped Metro train yet? It’s not as cute as the Pride Train, but I’ll take it. Enjoy the long weekend 🎉
