🔴 How Trump plans to ‘takeover’ DC
July 15, 2024 · 💌 Kaela
Hey there! Thanks to everyone who came out to our live taping this weekend. It was great to meet so many of you and hear about your own D.C. experiences. Catch you at the next one!

What's CITY Talking About?
DC Abortion Fund Cuts
The DC Abortion Fund significantly reduced its services following budget cuts at its national funders Planned Parenthood and the National Abortion Federation. DCAF can now only pay 30% of care and travel costs for abortion seekers, down from 50%. [Washington City Paper]
Is DC Violating the Fair Housing Act?
A group of Ward 8 homeowners filed a federal complaint claiming that D.C. is violating the Fair Housing Act by concentrating low-income housing in majority Black neighborhoods and single-family homes in predominantly white neighborhoods. [The DC Line]
Bus Changes Coming - Last Chance to Comment
Bus riders have until 5 p.m. today to voice any concerns over WMATA’s massive system overhaul. The plan will create new routes, but eliminate over 600 stops to increase efficiency. [Washington Post 🔒]

Where Is It?

First, Where Was Last Week’s Photo?
Nice work, this is the Bartholdi Fountain and Gardens, part of the U.S. Botanical Gardens. The two-acre garden sits across Independence Avenue from the Botanic Gardens and showcases sustainable landscaping and design techniques.
The garden centerpiece is the Bartholdi Fountain, or the “Fountain of Light and Water,” which weighs more than 15 tons and stands 30 feet tall.
🏆 Congratulations to Sylvia C., Elizabeth H., and Sarah K. for getting it right first!
Now, Onto This Week’s Challenge:

Now, can you tell me where these impressive spiral stairs are located? Bonus points if you can tell me what you like to do there.

Trump's Radical Plan to ‘Takeover’ DC
It might not get as much attention as other stuff going on in the presidential election, but Trump has made a number of radical proposals for what he’d do to D.C. if elected. Cuneyt Dil from Axios is here to tell us how it could affect you.

We had a couple of typos in Friday’s newsletter 😬 There will be a potential new flight from DCA to San Juan, Puerto Rico, not New Mexico. And the magazine I mentioned in the goodbye message is actually Food & Wine!
