DC Beats Housing Goal
Mayor Muriel Bowser announced the city has met its goal of adding 36,000 housing units one year ahead of schedule. The administration set the goal five years ago to keep up with D.C.’s population boom and rising housing costs. [Washington Post 🔒]
Algae Bloom Contributed to July 3 Boil-Water Advisory
A severe algae bloom clogged equipment at a local water treatment plant, leading to a boil-water advisory for the District and parts of Virginia. Experts say algae events like this may be more common as rising temperatures continue to warm waters in the Chesapeake Bay. [Inside Climate News]
DDOT Phasing Out DC Circulator
The District Department of Transportation issued a statement that the DC Circulator program will be downsizing in October and shutting down on Dec. 31. Here’s the changes you can expect to your route during this period. [WUSA9]
Over 700 DC Homes to Receive Air Quality Update
A $20 million grant will fund the retrofitting of 785 multifamily homes in D.C. to improve the air quality and reduce energy costs. The National Housing Trust and the Children’s Law Center organizations received the grant from the Environmental Protection Agency. [WUSA9]
