Hey, neighbor. It’s a great day to be a Terp. The University of Maryland is releasing its own Testudo Premium Lager this week, named after the school’s terrapin mascot. The beer will be brewed by a UMD alum who runs Union Craft Brewery in Baltimore.

What's CITY Talking About?

Brutalist Buzz
Brutalism is having a moment in D.C. While Washingtonians are showing love to Metro’s brutalist design, the National Building Museum’s new exhibit, Capital Brutalism, is exploring new possibilities for the city’s less popular brutalist structures. [Reddit, City Cast DC 🎧]
MARC and VRE Launch Ticket Share
Train riders will now be able to use the same weekly, monthly, or 10-trip pass to ride both the MARC train and the Virginia Railway Express. The ticket sharing agreement looks to improve commuter access between Maryland and Virginia. [WTOP]
WaPo Homicide Tracker
The Washington Post’s new tracker monitoring D.C. crime data shows homicides are significantly down this year. Like previous years, however, the data shows that violence is concentrated east of the Anacostia River. [Washington Post 🔒]

Where Is It?

First, Where Was Last Week’s Photo?
This alarmingly lifelike-looking statue is located on South Park Avenue in Friendship Heights. The bronze statue was erected in 2000 and depicts longtime Friendship Heights resident Colonel James S. McAuliffe Sr., who was a police officer for 42 years, and police chief for 16 years.
The statue took a beating shortly after the Jan. 6 riots and had to undergo extensive repairs, but now it’s back to slowing down heavy-footed Maryland drivers left and right.
🏆 Congratulations to Maia J., Ayanna H., and Edythe C. for getting it right first!

Now, Onto This Week’s Challenge:
Can you tell me where this historical fountain is? Bonus points if you can tell me the weird reason why it was built.
