🎟️ Your guide to September in DC

September 3, 2024 · 💌 Kaela

Hey, neighbor. Finally, the worst heat is behind us (fingers crossed), the tourists and interns are heading home, and all of a sudden D.C. seems livable again. We’ve got some ideas of how to take advantage of it ⬇️

What's CITY Talking About?

DC Cancels Medical Debt

D.C. is canceling $42 million in medical debt for 62,000 residents. The city partnered with a nonprofit that purchases the debt for cheap. Residents cannot apply for the program, their debt is automatically canceled, so check your mail. [Washington Post 🔒]

Red Line Back In Business

Metro reopened four Red Line stops over the weekend – Glenmont, Wheaton, Forest Glen, and Silver Spring. This marks the end of Red Line rehabilitation work (finally!) that was being done while part of a new Purple Line mezzanine was being built at Silver Spring. [WMATA]

Arlington Cancels Human Rights Commission

Arlington has dismantled its advisory Human Rights Commission, saying it overstepped its narrow bounds. The group is focused on discrimination in the private and nonprofit sectors, but the Arlington County Board said they went beyond this, leaving gaps in the work they were assigned.
