🙅 Uber Eats dumps DC cafe after racist video
September 20, 2024 · — Adrian González
Good morning, love birds! Did you know that it’s National Singles Week? I did not, but it reminded me of a great conversation we had on the City Cast DC podcast about the perils of dating in D.C. The good news is that we were joined by a dating coach that had very good advice, including the question on every District romantic’s mind: Should you date across the river? ❤️🔥

What's CITY Talking About?
Concerning Cannabis Shop Bust
D.C.'s Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration’s (ABCA) Enforcement Division and MPD shut down two more unlicensed cannabis shops on Wednesday: All American Papers and StonerzDC. As part of the bust, police say they recovered 949 grams of marijuana laced with amphetamine. [ABCA Press Release]

The Black Suburb That Almost Was
Tomorrow, Maryland will unveil a historic plaque honoring Belmont, the failed 1906 Black-led suburban development in what is now Chevy Chase. Historians Neil Flanagan and Kim Bender, whose research unearthed this story, told the City Cast DC podcast how powerful locals subverted the plans, shaping who lives where in the DMV even today. Uber Eats Dumps Coffee Shop After Racist Video
The delivery app has removed Canna Coffee in AdMo from its platform after a viral TikTok showed the shop’s owner berating an Uber Eats driver for speaking Spanish, saying “this ain’t your country.” D.C. police are investigating the owner for a potential hate crime. [Fox 5]

Driver with Dozens of Unpaid Tickets Hits Child
A Maryland driver allegedly hit a 12-year-old girl with his car at a crosswalk in Capitol Hill, leaving her with broken toes. Earl Darryl Curtis denies fault, despite witness accounts and a vehicle history of 94 unpaid traffic tickets amounting to $19,770 worth of citations. [City Cast DC 🎧]
