Missing Middle Housing Gets Overturned
A judge overturned Arlington’s Missing Middle zoning changes, saying the county didn’t consider localized impacts or follow proper procedures, and that it violated tree canopy requirements. The zoning change had allowed six-unit buildings to be built on properties zoned for only single-family homes. [ARLnow, City Cast DC 🎧]
Moped Crackdown Continues
D.C. police have impounded 499 illegal mopeds since beginning their crackdown in June. The crackdown looked to increase moped registration following a recent spike in moped delivery drivers. [WUSA 9, City Cast DC 🎧]
Decline in Opioid Deaths
There was a significant decline in opioid-related deaths in D.C. in the first half of 2024. The drop-off shows promising improvement, and gives advocates and city officials hope that the strategies they’re trying are proving successful. [Washington Post 🔒]
