🚌 Why is the circulator being cut?
October 3, 2024 · 💌 Kaela
Hey, D.C. It’s Oct. 3, a.k.a. “Mean Girls Day,” and also nine days away from the release of these sick Howard University Air Jordans. It’s also the first sunny-ish day in D.C. after 11 consecutive days of rain. I couldn’t decide which fact was most important, so you get them all.

What's CITY Talking About?

DC Facing Vacancy Crisis
Parts of D.C. have seen a rise in vacant storefronts, exacerbating the concerns around an empty and crime-ridden downtown. Experts say temporary tenants such as art galleries coupled with changes in building requirements could reinvigorate storefronts. [City Cast DC 🎧]
Teachers’ Union Reaches Agreement
The Washington Teachers’ Union reached a tentative agreement with D.C. Public Schools after more than a year of negotiations. Union members will vote soon on the five-year contract agreement, which tries to improve working conditions and address staffing shortages. [WUSA9]
Tenant Eviction Protections Under Fire
D.C. Council unanimously voted to roll back pandemic-era legislation that protected tenants from eviction even if they hadn’t paid rent in months. The now-defunct law allowed tenants to self-certify that they needed emergency rental assistance, and forced judges to delay eviction proceedings as long as the aid application was pending. Baltimore Dockworkers Strike
Baltimore dockworkers are on strike after failing to reach a new labor contract deal. If not resolved soon, the strike could affect supply chains ahead of the holidays, not to mention the election. [Axios DC]
