What's CITY Talking About?

U Street Parking Costs Increasing

Burglars With Sledgehammers Smash DC Stores

D.C. police are investigating break-ins of at least 18 retail stores and restaurants in Northwest, where at least two suspects used sledgehammers to burglarize businesses, break equipment, and steal thousands of dollars of cash. Police say the burglars were driving a gray Infiniti Q50 with a Virginia plate. [Washington Post 🔒]

Over 450 GW Resident Doctors Vote to Strike

Medical school graduates and fellows at George Washington University are demanding cost-of-living pay increases and better mental health benefits. A bargaining session is set for Dec. 5, but they plan to strike starting Dec. 17 if no deal is reached. [Washington Post 🔒]

The Mystery of Stolen Compost Containers Continues

Since the city launched its pilot program to collect food scraps, 9,000 participating households have been issued a five-gallon bucket to contain the compost. And yet, unexpectedly, about 4,000 buckets have been stolen, according to the Department of Public Works. Put your thinking hats, err buckets, on because this one’s a stinky conundrum. While DJ Trev Ski is spinning vinyl, snack on wasabi nori chips or jamón Ibérico.

Lydia on H

📍 H Street Corridor

Head to this Afro-Caribbean restaurant and bar for the Santa’s Chalet pop-up Christmas cocktail bar. Try the Baby It’s Cold Outside cocktail with warm apple cider, cinnamon, star anise, and Skrewball Peanut Butter whiskey. Or The Grinch, with Vascano tequila, sour apple, lime, and triple sec. Plus, they’re offering s'mores! But they’re only available by the fire pit, of course.
