February 13, 2025 · 💌 Kaela

What's CITY Talking About?
Federal Deferred Resignation Program Proceeds
The Trump administration’s deferred resignation program for federal workers will move forward. The U.S. District Court judge who paused the program ruled that the union plaintiffs were not directly affected, but did not comment on the legality of the resignation program itself. The administration is immediately moving to close the program to new applicants. [New York Times]
- Critics argue that the offer might not be trustworthy. We talked with a D.C. attorney to find out. [City Cast DC 🎧]

DC and Trump Tag Team SW Redevelopment
D.C. officials are looking to work with Trump to turn the federal buildings south of the National Mall into a new neighborhood. The new administration wants to save federal funds used to maintain the buildings, and D.C. wants to cash in on new tax dollars brought in by redeveloping the area. [City Cast DC 🎧]
MoCo Plastic Bag Ban
Montgomery County is banning plastic shopping bags to help eliminate plastic pollution in local waterways. The new law, which goes into effect in 2026 also doubles the tax on paper bags from 5 cents to 10 cents. [Washington Post 🔒]

CC2DCA Pedestrian Bridge Takes Shape
Renderings for the planned pedestrian bridge connecting Crystal City with DCA just dropped. The $57.2 million project will be completed in 2029 and will allow bikers and pedestrians to move safely between Mount Vernon Trail, Crystal City Metro, and a new Virginia Railway Express station. [Axios DC]
