Unemployment Up As Federal Layoffs Continue

Unemployment claims in D.C. jumped 20% last week as President Trump and DOGE continued cutting thousands of federal jobs. Since Trump took office, more than 8,700 workers in D.C. have filed for unemployment insurance. [Washington Post 🔒]

Cannabis Shop Crackdown

D.C.’s Attorney General shut down 25 unlicensed cannabis shops in the District over the last six months. The office says these "gifting shops” often sell unregulated and untested products that can be harmful to users. [Office of the DC Attorney General]

USAID Workers Rush To Clear Workspaces

Laid off USAID workers were given just 15 minutes to clean out their desks on Thursday and Friday. Over 5,600 USAID employees, many of which live in D.C., have been fired or placed on leave by the Trump administration. [NBC Washington]

New Traffic Safety Initiative

City officials launched a new program to bring down traffic deaths. DDOT says 5% of roads are responsible for 50% of crashes. Increased traffic enforcement will be posted in those high-crash areas for 60 days. [WTOP]

Federal Medicaid Cuts Could Devastate DC

A new Congressional budget proposal would reduce D.C.’s Medicaid federal reimbursement rate from 70% to 50%. Experts say this would cost the city $800 million per year, which could be devastating to the city’s economy and services. [City Cast DC 🎧]
