What's CITY Talking About?

GOP Targets New DC Council Privacy Law
Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) wants to repeal a new D.C. Council bill which allows them to host secret meetings, away from the public and press. Local transparency activists have been irate about the law, which was passed as emergency legislation. [City Cast DC 🎧]
WorldPride Organizers Concerned For Trans Participants
The organizers of D.C.’s WorldPride say they are considering warning trans foreigners to not travel to D.C. and participate in light of new anti-trans federal policies. The festival runs from May 17 to June 8. [WTOP]
Congress Drags Feet On Passing DC Budget Cut
The House of Representatives failed to address the $1B budget cut facing D.C. before adjourning until Apr. 28. Councilmember Charles Allen says city leaders are considering "serious and significant cuts to city operations, public safety, public education, our own transit system." [City Cast DC 🎧, NBC4]
Metro Approves New Budget and Service Changes
The Metro board approved a nearly $5B budget for the 2026 fiscal year that includes longer weekend hours and more Silver and Red Line service during peak hours. They also voted to extend General Manager Randy Clarke’s contract another two years until 2029. [Metro]
Local Cafes Brace for Tariffs
Local cafes say they may have to raise coffee prices or add tariff surcharges because of the 10% global tariff facing coffee-producing countries. One manufacturer said latte prices could go up "anywhere from $2.50 to $4.”
