RFK Stadium Deal Raises Concerns
Skepticism and concerns are coming into the light after yesterday's news that the city is close to a $3B Commanders stadium deal. DC Council chairman Phil Mendelson is reportedly worried about investing in a stadium while D.C.’s budget issues remain unresolved. Others question whether Congress would allow the deal to proceed. Metro CEO Talks Crime With Trump Appointee
D.C. Metro head Randy Clarke met with Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy just a day after a Metro police officer was assaulted making a fare evasion arrest. Clarke said they discussed crime on the system, as well as changing federal grant processes and regulations to make rail updates easier. [Washington Post 🔒]
MD Senator Meets With Wrongly Deported Resident
Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) met yesterday with Kilmar Abrego García, a Prince George’s County resident who was mistakenly deported to a prison in El Salvador. The senator flew down Wednesday but says he was initially denied entry to the facility. Meanwhile, the Trump administration is once again appealing a judge’s order requiring Abrego García's return. Capital Pride Alliance Gets Grant for World Pride
A local nonprofit won $900,000 from the city to help organize WorldPride this summer. The funds come from the city’s Large Event Grant Program and won't be impacted by the potential billion dollar budget cut. [Washington Blade]
