September 24, 2025 · 💌 Kaela
Hey DC! Today we’re kicking off our fall membership campaign. While this newsletter is totally free, we need support from you 🫵 to help keep it going. How? By becoming a City Cast DC Neighbor!
We believe that better neighbors make better cities and that’s why City Cast DC makes it easy (and fun! I hope) to be engaged in D.C. — from local events to neighborhood politics.
For $10 a month you’ll support a local team that loves D.C. as much as you do, while unlocking great perks. Plus, we’ll even send you our exclusive Neighbors Make DC tote! 🛍️

What's CITY Talking About?
ICE Targets DC’s Childcare Workers
Federal immigration crackdowns are straining D.C.’s already overwhelmed child care system, and childcare workers, worried they will be targeted, are taking precautions. Chabeli Carrazana from The 19th breaks down what it means for families and providers. [City Cast DC 🎧]
RFK Stadium Neighborhood Delayed
The neighborhood surrounding the newly approved RFK stadium is no longer expected to open by 2030. The mixed-use development area could be delayed a couple of years due to required zoning approvals. The stadium itself is on track and Mayor Bowser said she hopes it will host the 2031 Super Bowl. [Axios]
Washington Gas To Stop Anacostia Pollution
Washington Gas has agreed to stop ongoing pollution of the Anacostia River from the company’s East Station after an investigation found evidence of toxic chemicals. [DC’s Attorney General’s Office]
Will Bowser Run Again?
We’re nine months out from the primary election and Mayor Bowser still hasn't indicated whether she’s running. She talked about her intentions in an interview on Noosphere. “My job is not to be mayor for life,” said Bowser, “My job is to do good work and to leave a legacy.” [NBC4]

This is my first time hearing of “sit at the bar September” but I’ve long been a proponent of the solo bar date. In fact, we’ve got a whole list of D.C.’s most underrated bars for drinking alone.
😍 P.S. Before you go, don’t forget to sign up to become a City Cast DC neighbor for a cutie tote!
